TOPIC: Ring of Evasion up for trade

I agree - it is waaaay down from where it was.

Pity as a 50% miss chance on every good hit was not going to be totally over powered.

I think I got targeted 4-5 times at SoCal and only hit three times I think - and I forgot to mention my CoD...so I took all the hits.

I think my new top 5 PURP only "in game playabilty" value is as follows:

1. Ring of Evasion
2. Girdle of GS
3. Gloves of Dex
4. 3-way tie Cloak of Displacement, +1 Plate, +1 Ring
5. Ring of Regen

CoD dropped down on my list and may not be in my arsenal for INDY 06 over the +2 saves cloak.

Collectible factor:
Ring of Regen has to be #1 on my get list for PURPS.

A Haste potion would be up there too - but non-PURP.

I may not be bringing my CoD either, as the +2 cloak is probably more powerful now. Saves are somewhat common. I might be trading the CoH however. Wonder what I could get for it... not nearly as much as I traded for it I assume.

I didn't get hit at all by a critter at SoCal (at least that I can remember), but I got it to work the one time with the arrow trap.

WOW - you didn't get hit once??? Not even in the chop shop? I thought I healed you up in that room??? Maybe it was someone else...bad memory.

All I know is we CRIT the heck out of that monster and were out of there quick.

I think Raven is on to something with her kill and kill quick strategy.

I thought it was a trap or something that got me - I know I got hit by the acid in the days of the week room...

23 AC has its advantages.

I was TRYING to get hit in the statue room, but the DM wouldn't take the bait lol. I was afraid our fearless barbarian was going to get wasted in there.

I got hit at least twice by the Marilith (sp?). I had to sit out one combat round and heal someone (maybe myself) - and passed a healing potion to someone else...that was a big fight room.

That was the most intense combat to date for me...the three lizardman fight paled in comparison.

Oh - yes and my AC was 23 too! HOOT!

Also, there is a synergy effect by using the Cloak +2 with the Ring of Evasion. So another reason not to use the CoD.

And maybe I didn't read it all that well either...is it the first swing - no matter if it was a hit or a miss...so it only works on the first attack of the creture on the player???

First swing of the creature against you that would have been a hit without the cloak, regardless of whether it actually ends up hitting or missing.

Examples:

-Creature's first swing is against somebody else. Effect not used.
-Creature's first swing at you, which misses normally (under AC). Effect not used.
-Creature's first swing at you to beat your AC. Normally a hit, but your cloak prevents damage. Effect is used.
-Creature's first swing at you to beat your AC. Normally a hit, and your cloak fails to prevent damage. Effect is used.


Here is the exact text of the Token Guide

Wearing this cloak allows the wearer some protection against the FIRST combat strike in a melee that would have normally hit him. The first time the DM rolls an attack that would normally hit the character, the DM then rolls a d20, and a result of 11-20 means that the attack fails. This item is only works once[sic] - and during the first potential combat strike. Regardless of whether the monster hits, this one-time-use-per-combat is expended.

Ahh, that is better than I thought. That isn't bad at all.

Soooooo, if your AC is 23 and most monsters miss you anyway....

You see my point.

I am really hard pressed now - is the +2 on all saves better than this 50% to save 4-6 points of damage once or twice???

I'm still thinking +2 cloak.

Hehe, well... depends on your class (and also if you're playing hardcore).

If you've got a lot of heals you're willing to use, a couple 4-6's don't hurt much. Bear in mind though, two 6 point hits will kill at least one class, and two 6 point hits combined with running out of time on a single room? Well, that will whipe out everybody but a Fighter or Barbarian.

The high AC is very useful, to be sure. The cloak may be one of those items that is better for wizards, bards, and their lightly armored ilk, than it is for the plate-hauling meatshields and clerics. With an AC of 23, it might not come into play much... with an AC of 14 though? That could be every single room.

AGREED - hands down.

BUT - as a member of the hard shelled armor group...it drops on my value list...
