Oh, sorry, I just googled a thumbs up img, and directly linked to the img. I'll just add a similar img to my imgur and repost. If that's cool.

By the way, nothing let me know the post was deleted (besides your post). If I hadn't scrolled through I wouldn't have known.

A few other tips if you want to pass them along:

  • Make sure you are using some sort of caching if your codebase supports it (e.g. apcu)
  • When the system is down it seems mostly due to a lack of available DB connections to mysql; if you have a beefier server you should be able to really increase the max DB connections allowed. You can even consider moving mysql to a separate server if you really want to go crazy.

Thanks, Jeff. The forums are critical and it is annoying when they are slow or down (e.g. during event registration).

Next thing you know, Kirk will start suggesting moving the forum to a heroku instance or similar cloud service where the power behind the scenes can be scaled up for big days like event registration and releases of new year's tokens. ;)

I was also thinking a scaling backend would be great for times like these.

PHP7 = yes.

Other stuff... I passed it along.

For some reason I had it in my head that this site ran on Linode, and if so they can do that pretty easily. But now I can't figure out how I know that, or even if it is true or not.

Definitely there would be some optimizations on a platform like Amazon AWS where you could pro-actively increase sizing when needed.
My online token shop: www.tdtavern.com

We buy, sell, and trade True Dungeon tokens. We also have a convenient consignment program where you can sell your own tokens.
