The survivor buttons are really kind of a keepsake for me too, and not so much a badge of honor. However, my victim button from last year? The year that Smoak ground me to a bit of paste? THAT badge I will wear with honor. It was a glorious, painful and messy death that I will remember proudly. As a casual player, I'm not too worried about where people got their buttons. I agree with Raywind though about Smoak. It's cool to be able to say, "Smoak chewed you up too, eh? Good times."

Just don't put the word survivor on the buttons, if the issue is if the wearer survived or not.

Just put the logo and the year on it. Now its like buying a button while visiting Sea World or Disneyland. It just says "I went and liked it enough to promote it via my attire." It doesn't say you fed shamu or met mickey mouse, just that you went into the park.

Now it becomes advertising and not a badge of distinction. And to get one requires either buying from someone who went through or earning a treasure token of your own.

That's sort of my feeling; if they're going to be regulated by the XP desk as in the past, go ahead and keep 'Survivor' on it. If anyone can purchase them with treasure tokens / cash, then just have them indicate the dungeon and the year.

Well, I know that I would NEVER sell my survivor buttons. Worked too hard for them. As far as others selling them, they would only have one, and if they wanted to surrender that ONE.. well that would be, to me, just plain silly. I guess you could buy them, but who would want to flaunt what you didn't earn? Just me...

Doh.. that came out wrong. I think that you should only get ONE button and have to trade a token in for it from the treasure. Just a note, I had two treasure maps and did not get a single pull that was not common from that chest.

...maybe we should just bring the Survivor and Victim buttons back.

Jeff, maybe buttons should just be participation buttons (ie. dungeon logos) not survived / victim. I’m new and don’t know if survivor buttons are well establish in the TD culture.

If there’s a demand for something legit that players can use to prove they survived various dungeons, maybe you could make a player id card. It could be slipped into the GenCon pass sleeve. You could make special ink stamp logos unique to each dungeon, and a player can get their card stamped at the XP counter for survived dungeons. If they lose it, then next year they can get a new card and get it stamped with all their old stamps. If card space is an issue maybe they pick only the most important dungeons to get stamped.

Or a cheaper solution might be to have this online so that players can print it out. It would have their XP level, and logos of completed dungeons. Maybe a color ring around a logo represents the difficulty level. Of course in this print-it-yourself scenario players could still photoshop. But it could be a cheap way for players to have a physical 'badge of honor'. I'd print one.

Just an idea.

PS: I could be remembering wrong but I could have sworn I pulled mostly commons and one uncommon from the treasure chest after my dungeons. I was disappointed.

Best Regards, and thanks for a fun game.

EDIT: Oh, Badges could also have the Lord/Lady titles on them, and could be used for entrance to the Tavern for free (if free is dependant on level)

Good on you, I managed to build a tresure map with fragments I bought for gold from various people around the lobby and got two greens and a bunch of common gold items(which I promptly spent on a craftable =). When all was said and done it was a little disapointing to go through the trouble of building the map and just break even but thems the breaks. Still a fun activity over all.

Quick question re the maps. Will the 2011 tresure maps be usable next year (assumeing theres a 2012 chest)?

Mark me down as loving the buttons. I have been collecting them (by surviving!) since 2005 (or was it 2004?).

Several things

1st, I LOVE THE BUTTONS and was sorrily disappointed that there were no nightmare and NO grind buttons.

2nd, at the XP desk it is kind of regulated, first if on the party card it said you died in room 6, well you don't get a survivor pin do you... Also, the first thing the desk volunteers usually ask you is "well did you survive?" The players tend to be truthful in these first answer so if they didn't then they don't get a survivor pin.

Being able to just purchase them with a treasure token really cheapened the button experience for me, and let me tell you, I treasure my older pins. My pins also tell me what I've played over the years, and now that I have a Sash to wear them on all together they are even more important to me. Heck, get rid of the treasure pulls at the end, just bring back the buttons and let the XP desk handle giving them out.

Finally, I also got a lot of commons from the dungeon treasure boxes, in fact out of 33 pulls I got only 4 monster trophies. Very disappointed in that this year, but that was really the only disappointment this year.
