TOPIC: Riddle Reveal: Lair of the Sea-Lich

Re: Riddle Reveal: Lair of the Sea-Lich 1 year, 9 months ago #13

Does anyone remember what the Rogue clue was for the first room? I remember something about measure length of rope or something? Although there was the rope/ring thing, not sure how the clue was helpful?

The clue was measure before wrapping or something to that effect.

I solved the beer barrel puzzle in my group, although I didn't get LARGE. Someone who had been through before helped us solve the FISH rope puzzle, but we did something wrong, the rope ended up short, and we got push damage. On all my runs, the DMs specifically mentioned that the chains were enchanted, but didn't necessarily stress the word "enchanted."

All good puzzles, IMHO. I'm not sure room 6 was really BOOed, but there were large groans of frustration.

I'm curious about answers that were tried in the dinner puzzle. If I was the DM in that room, I might have given credit for ingenious 10 letter words that were similar in meaning to disenchant. I know as a player it was hard to come up with any 10 letter word that I thought would have worked. Of the attempted answers that I've heard so far, all were multi-worded answers like "unchain us".

Ya, we were stuck on anagrams as well. We also tried a few 2 word combos with a space.

I'd have to say, not a single rogue clue was ever helpful in that dungeon. I believe the one in that room was something like look to the sign for help. Like durrrr, it was the only thing in the room and was clearly a special font. Something that told you it wasnt an anagram or a slightly longer phrase on the sign would have gone a long way to make that puzzle enjoyable.

The lager puzzle was a good one. Several clues got you there. Ie we didn't get the fact that it was 16 letters long or was the only pilsner, but we SW glared=Sun, regal=queen and lager=pilsner and was the onlyone that had a 3 way match. We enjoyed that one a lot.

Over all last year's puzzles were much more fun.

That was exactly our problem.

16 letters long? I must have missed that bit.

Rope puzzle did our group in both times. We survived it and had a great cleric who NEVER missed a bead. Actually, did not realize that the numbers on the board meant anything. Doh. It was still great fun, and we had a bunch of newbs with us. Next year two of them are supposed to be joining us in the run. The first time we did not find the hand, but part of that was shying away from folks grabbing your hand. Second time we found the ring and placed it on top. Overall, a good time! The DM kept saying ENCHANTED chains, so that one was pretty easy to decipher if you were paying attention.

Part of me thinks the 16 letters in the name thing is really a coincidence to be honest; Jeff didn't mention it at the riddle reveal as being one of the possible ways to identify the correct drink. My friend who was playing the Bard in our party noticed it after we had solved the puzzle, and I figured it was worth noting.

Also, again, the Pilsner wasn't the only lager available, there was also the Moon King's Bock.

There was also a 3rd one that a couple of us though might have been a lager (the Jester's one, I forget the full name) but it wasn't... as I found out the hard way.

I'm going to take this opportunity to claim that our group was the first, and probably only group to kill the Lich with the party bard.

I don't mean the bard killed the Lich... I mean we actually killed her with the bard.
Blimey!

You're going to have to tell this tale.
-Master Li Lou Bahn, Terror of the East, Master of Shadows, Pillager of the province of Ch'in, Mandarin of the Emporer Shou Wei, Ambassador to the foreign devils of the West, and the most dangerous ninja in all of Greyhawk.
"cause I'm the only ninja in all of Gwehawk!!!"

Does anyone have the poem/riddle texts and a willingness to copy them here? I'd love to be able to tell my friends the story with that detail.

In fact, is there an official riddle reveal online besides the ones that we're doing ourselves here? (I know there was one at the auction itself, but I'm a Saturday-only attendee each year.)
