Was hoping to get an idea from the long-time TD gamers about loaning out treasure-gaining items.

Is there a generally accepted rate for getting treasure tokens in exchange for having someone else wear one of your extra Ring of Riches/Horn of Plenty? 1st pick of all the tokens received? 2nd and 4th picks?

I realize that many people will want something different but having an idea of where to start will be very helpful.

Thanks!

Hi Travis,

The first rule of thumb is that it's only OK to loan Rings of Riches or Horns of Plenty to people on runs that you're on yourself. At one point, when people were considering wholesale loaning them out to whomever wanted them, Jeff was considering having each Horn of Plenty registered to one person, allowing only that person to use it. Fortunately people dropped the idea of loaning them out on runs they weren't on themselves, and registering wasn't necessary.

There is no rule of thumb, it's whatever both parties agree to. I'd suggest the best way is to divide the treasure coins in some manner, and then each person can do their own picks. You're risking hurt feelings otherwise, if you do (for instance) 4 picks and get one Ultra-Rare and three mediocre tokens, whoever doesn't get the Ultra-Rare will likely not be happy.

Probably depends on a few factors, including friendship vs. stranger.

When I loaned out my AoW, and my friend rolled HoPx2, I let em take everything (though they kindly gave me the Boots of Warmth after pulling it). For a stranger, I'd definitely ask for first choice, meaning improved odds for you getting an UR or other highly desirable token.

And of course, Loaning out an extra HoP or RoR to a party member is fine, though loaning outside of the run is verboten.

Mike,

Sorry, I should have clarified that this will only be done on runs that I am also going on (just those runs that I will be going on by myself, without my regular group of 10).

Travis, that's great! I'd still suggest just divvying up the treasure coins in some agreed upon manner, and then you can each do your own treasure pulls and keep what you get. That's just my suggestion, I'm sure there are others that like the "1st pick" method or something similar.

Mike,

If I'm understanding you correctly, you mean that we would determine how many pulls each of us would get from the box and in what order. E.g., I would get the first two pulls and the player borrowing my Ring would get the rest.

I could see some good negotiating trade-off between getting fewer of the first pulls, those that are more likely to be guaranteed, and getting more of the last pulls, those that are less likely to be guaranteed because of fewer treasure stamps.

When you finish the run, they give each player their treasure pull tokens, and you walk over and turn them in at the loot boxes. The other person could hand you some number of their loot tokens before turning them in, and you can pull your own. If you do any sort of choice method, you'll obviously choose the best one, so as small as their odds are of getting a UR without using the HoP, they actually drop even further if you get any number of first picks.

Well, not exactly. What I was suggesting was that you divide the treasure coins at the exit booth. For instance, you could decide that for the Ring of Riches one of you gets two bonus tokens and the other gets one bonus token. And you could decide that for the Horn of Plenty, which gets two bonus pulls per treasure stamp, you split them evenly.

So, if you got three treasure stamps (for instance), one of you would get 5 bonus treasure coins, and the other would get four bonus treasure coins. Then, you would each be on your own as to when you go to the Treasure Box to do your pulls, and you'd each keep all the tokens you pull. One of you might decide to spend their treasure coins on stuff like buttons or mugs (depending on what is offered this year) and not do treasure pulls at all.

Mike, Brad,

Ah, ok. That helps clear it up. It's been 2 years since I did my first and only TD run so I had forgotten that they hand out the treasure tokens.

That makes it much easier (and definitely less likely to make someone upset by picking the only UR out of the pulls).

Thanks guys!
