I'd also suggest laminating the cards and using wet erase or dry erase for ease of use?
Dry erase wipes off way too easily. Even the slightest touch will erase all traces of writing. If someone holds the party card under their arm, there goes everyone's stats. Wet erase isn't quite as "fragile", but it's still comes off rather easily. Both inks are messy.
Even if we had an ink that didn't come off (without the proper chemicals and/ or effort), there are issues related to laminated cards.
- Laminating is expensive.
- It would require additional volunteers to scrub and recirculate the cards.
- I'm not positive, but I believe TD keeps the party cards and collects data from them after Gen Con.
Duplexed party cards would be more expensive. I think we ought to justify the added expense to the good folks who manage TD's budget. Therefore, if we were to go with a double-sided party card...
- What exactly should be on each side?
- Should it be landscape or portrait?
- Should it be legal (8.5 x 14) or letter (8.5 x 11) size?
Personally, I think having combat stats on two different sides is unwise. I don't want my DM spending precious time constantly flipping the card over to try and figure out who gets what bonus in the middle of a battle.
I'm not a DM, so please help me understand why DMs need clipboards. Isn't the party card pretty much something they just read, not something they write on?
