I think it may have wrinkled a bit as I was using the other arm/hand to take pictures first...they smooth out flat as can be and don't gap unless you cross over an arm or something...safety pins would also minimize this.

It does tend to shift (it is front heavy of course...) and it is not the most costume friendly item...but I am thinking for the Golden TIX run, I will give it a try.

Very nice!  I like how you finished the bottom edges - I couldn't figure out how to do that without adding a lot of handwork to the project.  Did you put in the hidden pocket?

For a design change... maybe you might want to taper it slightly at the top so it doesn't gap at the neck...  put in only 2 pockets on the top row?

I don't think the taper would look right...too much like a saddle bag or something.

The width of the sash was originally set to try and get 4 tokens across each row.  But we changed that idea in favor of more room in each pocket and deeper pockets.

And dare I say it...I can get 3 tokens in each pocket!!!

Okay, so  you've got my seamstress gene, a-jangling with these token sashes.  I've got a couple of questions, do you think you'll have much trouble with the clear plastic breaking?  What sort of film did you use for it?

See, we have had problems with the token pages snapping so that a cell will no longer hold a token.  If I put the effort into making sashes for Jason and me, I want them to LAST, so I'm reluctant to use any clear plastic film that might breat.  I've got this idea that it would be neat to use somesort of translucent fabric (like a tulle) or maybe some sort of mesh that is strong enough to hold the token securely, but flexible enough that it won't crack.  A relatively snug fishnet might do the trick.

And I'm paranoid about the tokens coming out.  What do you other crafty types think of placing a small button at the top of each pocket? Or perhaps a small patch of velcro.  I could use the sticky velcro and then whip a couple of stitches through it to make sure it stays in place.

Have those of you who've made sashes already tried and rejected any of the above because of unfeasiblity?

Unfortunately we haven't done any longevity tests on this plastic since they just haven't been in existence all that long.  Right now it's very supple and fabric-like, but I suppose it could get brittle over time.  I have pondered using a tulle or netting of some sort, but haven't gotten around to it.  Also, you can't help but have more trouble making out what the token is, especially in the dark dungeon.  The buttons would work fine, but be oh-so-time-consuming.  The very first thing I do when constructing these (aside from cutting) is put the bias binding on the strips of plastic.  At the same time you could put a row of velcro underneath it, and add the other half of the velcro to the sash front when laying down the strips.  That wouldn't be too bad, but it would truly be a pita to get the tokens in and out.  It occurs to me that you could potentially just sew the tokens in there - if you're making just one for yourself, and you tend to play the same character, why not?  Another option could be a zipper across the top of each row.  PM me your email address and I'll send you the instructions that I've made up, if you like.

Oh yes - the token pages are much more likely to pop and break...the plastic is quite supple and sew-friendly!

As for the secret pocket - well if I say anything about it - it would not be a secret now would it?  And we know there are far too many rogues looking for a challenge!

My thoughts on the button or velcro were that it would be a good way to secure tokens like armor or rings or perhaps a Widseth's lute.  Things that you won't be pulling out often (if at all) anyway.  Most consumables (potions, scrolls, etc) for me go in the "Gary-bags" (that's what I tend to call the token-totes that we got in 2006 as part of large token orders).  So that really only leaves a couple of weapons to have to deal with as "loose" tokens.

My big concern is inadvertently dropping a valuable token and then losing it to the darkness.  Anything I can do to prevent that is worth while.

OK - Last call before the con.  I have 5 'spares' made up that I can ship out Monday morning via Priority, and unless you live in the hind end of nowhere, you should get it before the con.  Here's some pics:

This image is hidden for guests. Please log in or register to see it.

Cost including priority shipping is $25 - pm me and I'll send my paypal address.  Alternately, I can meet you at the con to deliver, $22 then.  I'll be in Indy from Tuesday evening on.

For those of you who haven't seen them before, they have 5 rows with 3 pockets each, and each pocket holds one token.  There is also a 'hidden' token pocket that will hold 3-5 tokens, designed to hold your weapon for easy access.

First come, first served.  Thanks!
