TOPIC: TEP Party in Greenwood this Summer?

TEP Party in Greenwood this Summer? 13 years 1 month ago #1

Will there be a Token Exchange Party in Greenwood again this year? It would be great to be able to head up to Greenwood to trade in all our tokens again, and be able to see all the other great people in our community :)

while i belive most folks would love to do some sort of get together every month or so...if not weekly. i am thinking WYC was the route the jeff took this year. of course i could be completely wrong.

if i am thinking straight though, it would be cool for next year to have a token release party like this year and trading like last time too. then make WYC the main trade-in event of the year for everyone. lots of other things to do while waiting on tokens to be converted. :woohoo:

Since Jeff did two TEP's last year I believe Mike (and myself) are hoping Jeff does two this year.

Well, Jeff, I wasn't thinking of a monthly or weekly gathering, I was just thinking a summer TEP in June/July like last year (and there were a couple last year) would be nice.

I completely understand if there isn't one, but it would be nice to know so I can plan on mailing tokens in if there won't be a gathering. :)

Yeah, while another TEP party might be cool, I agree with Smak that WYC was probably this year's equivalent.

However, I do wish that they would allow a limited amount of trade-in at GenCon. Now I realize they don't want people trucking in giant piles of tokens (which they will need to take back to Carbondale but a limited amount (say, a handful to a dozen) per person would be nice. This is especially relevant for cases where someone wants to do transmutation at GenCon but is missing a few key items (but has the components for it), or in cases where you collect enough commons through your dungeon runs to make a trade item or two.

Eric the only issue with trading at GenCon in a "limited" number is it is a slippery slope. Even if you were just limit to what you obtain at during runs (not certain how you could) the number of runs some folks do could be a huge amount of tokens (my group will do 3 to 5 runs this year depending on availabilty). If you were to limit it to a "few" or "handful" it would be like the 20 items or less line without the 20 item sign.

I am not saying we shouldn't have trade-ins at GenCon, just that it should be an all or nothing. Trading is always a way to acquire if you are truly only a couple short.

Again I understand that WYC was a TEP this year. I am just comparing it to last year when there were multiple TEP's. One for the release in Carbondale, one in Greenwood on the May 19th, a second in Greenwood on the June 23rd, and a second in Carbondale post GenCon in Oct. So a second late summer one would be nice, especially if Jeff was headed to something like Origins.

Just my two cents.

Yes, but each person in your group could then trade in up to that limit.

All is extremely unlikely to happen this year, because people who traveled to WYC just for the purpose of trading in tokens are likely to complain.

I agree it would be nice. But it's a question of how much added expense / time it would take from Jeff and friends. And how many people would actually attend such an additional TEP (and still have significant amounts of tokens to trade in).

And it doesn't address the issue that if someone has only a handful of trade items to make, traveling all the way for a TEP party still isn't efficient (while limited trade-in at GenCon would).

I went to WYC. If there was a trade-in at GenCon I would not complain. I doubt anyone else would either. More chances to trade-in are always welcome. I think saying a certain number of allowed trade-ins is bad. You need to do 1 ok. 2 ok 3 ok 4 ok....what number do you stop at? When you chose a number what do you do about the person that just need one more than that. It is really only 1 more. Okay then the guy with only 2 more and so on and so on. That is the slippery slope I was talking about. Also what would stop someone for trading in that limit and then just getting "in line" again and trading again. Back to limiting tokens just acquired at GenCon (I still don't know how you could do this, but let's assume you can). There are people who do 10+ runs. Do you limit how much they can turn in as well?

I don't think anyone is telling Jeff he has to do another TEP. Of course he knows his resources better than any of us. I (and Mike) were asking if he was. I was asking because it seemed to me that logically he would because he had done multiple last year. Not because he needs to repeat himself but because based on the information we have it would seem logical to me that he would do another.

As far as travelling to a TEP to do a handful, no one is forcing anyone to travel to one. The mail in options is ALWAYS available. I suggested if Jeff is going to Origins (I believe he went last year on business) then that would be a decent place to do another TEP (again if his resources allowed such). Heck if he wanted volunteers for it I am sure he could get them (I would if I will be free then). I would not see the difference between huge difference for traders to go to something like Origins or WYC. I understand there may be a huge difference for Jeff as far as cost and the like.

i like the idea of having these events at smaller conventions. while im sure people would travel for a TEP when nothing else is going on, it is probably nice to have a big event at the location to attend.

and on this line of thought, maybe the summer exchange party could be at InConJunction. sci-fi/fantasy con at the indy east side marriot (I-70 and shadeland).

The dates are 5-7 July, that would work out pretty well. I'd prefer Greenwood like last year, but I'd probably travel to Inconjunction to trade the tokens in.

I don't think Jeff has said one way or another if there would be a summer token trade-in opportunity. I figure once the Kickstarter is over he might have time to figure out if he's able to support another one before GENCON :)

I thought WYC was a great choice, but a major component was that the con was free.

InConJunction looks neat, but my understanding is that you'll need to pay $40-$50 to register. So for those primarily interested in TD things, paying extra overhead may make InConJunction a poor choice. :)

What Jeff has planned for the rest of the summer, I am not sure. I think it depends on being able to find a location.

Jeff and I also spoke about a very limited at con trade in option. I am likely going to be the sole "trader" so I can not handle huge amounts. But possibly those who plan on driving down from Canada could be accomidated.

Since we probably will not be making those decisions until after the DF Kickstarter and closer to the con. I would assume that for most, and most circumstances, token trade in for "Trade Items" should be done via mail, or at one of the trade in meetings before the con (provided there is another).

I am always willing to accomidate people as much as I can, but it really depends on how we plan for the con and what supplies are brought. Last year, none of the "Trade Items" supplies were brought to the con, so I could not really handle any kind of mass trades, I could only hold and re-use any that were turned in, which was highly dependant on the types of trades I made before hand.

So stay tuned, Jeff has heard and acknowledged the request, and we have had some initial implementation discussions but nothing has been finalized yet and probably will not be until closer to the con.
