TOPIC: Robe of the Vale: Mystic Silk vs. Minotaur Hide?

Robe of the Vale: Mystic Silk vs. Minotaur Hide? 13 years 1 month ago #1

I recall previous conversations which indicated an easy check for "armor" is that which increases AC. Now the Robe of the Vale (+1AC) is listed under Mystic Silk in the Trade Token guide, which is also understandable.

Which is the overriding characterization when tokens fit into more than one category? Is Mystic Silk correct for Robe of the Vale?

P.S. While we're talking about trade tokens, the common Ioun Stone Copper Cube is listed incorrectly in the guide as a sphere.

When I transmuted at WhosYerCon I used Robe of the Vale to make Mystic Silk. Similarly Robe Mage of the Vale and Robe of the Mage are listed under Mystic Silk as well in the Trade Token Guide.

It is an easy check but not a hard fast rule. Bracers are another example of something that may provide +AC but still trade to mystic silk. Ring of Protection is Philo Stone.

To determine what category a token fits in for the purpose of converting into Trade Tokens, do the following:
  1. Consult pages 4-5 in the Trade Token Guide or the list of Trade Tokens on the TDb . There you will find the criteria for each category. For example, items qualifying for Mystic Silk are defined thusly:

Belts, Boots, Bracers*, Cloaks, Girdles, Gloves, Shirts, or other articles of clothing.

*In general, "Bracers" (plural) are considered clothing and "Bracer" (singular) is a weapon.

  2. If that does not answer your question, look up the specific token in question in the Trade Token Guide or the TDb .
